CITY AS PLATFORM combines practices of computation, design, and art. We address the design of “smart” cities, sentient objects (Internet of Things), and networked subjects. We come from a mixed background of art studio practice, code hacking, and object creation. We bring our experimental practice out of the lab and into the city. We investigate aspects of human narrative and digital data in relation to the rise of global cities. Our domain of inquiry includes aspects of locative art and apps, mobile media, social & civic media, dimensionalized storytelling, participatory culture, politics of engagement, and Big Data of cities. Our lab is supported by a grant from the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
